Investing with integrity, serving with purpose, and building trust that endures

We exist to give our clients confidence in achieving their long-term investment goals.

Our Story

JAG Capital Management traces its roots to 1945, when Joseph Aloysius Glynn co-founded Blewer, Heitner & Glynn in St. Louis with a mission to serve clients with integrity and long-term discipline.

One of the firm’s earliest relationships — One of the firm’s earliest relationships – a large Women’s Religious Institution — helped shape its enduring focus on institutions with multi-generational missions. By the early 1960s, the firm became known as J.A. Glynn & Co., building a reputation for sound research and prudent investing across market cycles.

In 1988, Daniel J. Ferry, Jr. acquired the firm and guided it through a period of modernization and growth, later relocating headquarters to the Clayton corridor to position for expansion.

Norm B. Conley III joined in 1999 and became CEO in 2008, continuing the legacy of disciplined, client-aligned investing. Today, under the JAG Capital Management brand, the firm celebrates 80 years of independence, stewardship, and partnership — helping clients move Forward. Together.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA)?

A Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) is a firm or individual registered with the SEC or state regulators that provides investment advice to clients. RIAs have a fiduciary duty, meaning they are legally obligated to act in their clients’ best interests — placing client needs ahead of their own.

The key difference is the fiduciary standard. RIAs must act solely in the client’s best interest, while brokers operate under a suitability standard, which allows them to recommend products that are “suitable” but not necessarily optimal. RIAs are typically fee-based, not commission-based.

RIAs with over $100 million in assets under management are regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC); smaller RIAs are regulated by state securities authorities.

Common services include portfolio management, financial planning, retirement planning, institutional portfolio management, socially responsible investing.

An SMA is a personalized investment portfolio owned directly by the client, managed by professional portfolio managers. Unlike mutual funds, clients own the individual securities, offering greater transparency, customization, and tax efficiency.

Most RIAs charge a percentage of assets under management (AUM). Some may offer flat fees or hourly consulting, depending on the service model. JAG’s standard fee schedule can be found here [hyperlink to Form ADV].

We believe in long-term, disciplined investing guided by fundamental research and risk management. Our goal is to generate consistent, risk-adjusted returns that align with each client’s objectives, time horizon, and values.

Being a fiduciary means your advisor is legally and ethically required to act in your best interest — avoiding conflicts of interest, disclosing fees, and ensuring recommendations are fully aligned with your goals.

RIAs use independent custodians (e.g., Schwab, Pershing) to safeguard client assets. The custodian sends regular account statements and ensures full transparency.

We combine institutional-quality investment management with personalized client service. Our team is 100% employee-owned, ensuring alignment with our clients’ success. We offer transparency, discipline, and a long-term focus.

Yes, we work closely with clients who want to implement Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) screens that reflect their personal or institutional values.

Yes, RIAs can build a comprehensive retirement plan that includes asset allocation, withdrawal strategies, Social Security optimization, and income planning.
